MOON MAGIC - Astrological Timing for Success – September 2010
The month begins with a grand alignment of Venus, Mars and Spica in the early evening sky. Venus and Mars together reset the course of personal relationships. And the bright star Spica adds more than a little potent spice to this dynamic duo so new romances will be born while old loves grow anew. One of the 22 brightest stars, Spica is represented by the Empress card in Tarot and by the goddess Ceres, keeper of the horn of plenty. This cool blue star marking the wheat sheaf of Virgo symbolizes the harvest and promise of abundant new creation. Along with Venus and Mars this means relationships prosper materially and spiritually as well as in matters of the heart. Couples will be partnering successfully in world service and in business enterprise as this influence is augmented by events that follow: On Sept 3 a fabulous New Mercury at the Virgo Gate of Inspiration (in good harmonic with Jupiter at 1 Aries) means about 3 months of world changing new discoveries, inspired personal interchange and successful commercial enterprise. Mercury loves Virgo. The waxing crescent New Moon Sept 9-11 powers on this new story as Venus, Mars and Spica hang together in the evening sky. The month culminates with the Moon Hare Festival/Harvest Moon at Autumn Equinox Sept 22-25. This is a magic time when we “extract the elixir” of the year and share what we’ve gleaned in community. As the Sun moves through Libra, the sign of the Egyptian goddess Maat, we restore balance within and release what makes the heart heavy so it becomes as light as the Feather of Truth. With new clarity we begin to rebuild our world in a way that will benefit all. Two of the most prominent constellations visible now are Aquila the Eagle and Cygnus the Swan. The Eagle wields thunderbolts to clear shadows from the world, the Swan brings love and peace on Earth.
Venus aligns with Mars, Sept 1 – Magical New Beginnings, New Love - Look for bright Venus close by the star Spica and little red Mars. This trio brings harmony, excitement and abundance on many levels.
Gate of Inspiration, Sept 2 10:20 am – 11:11 am Sept 3 - A new Muse Gate opens every 40 days, 9 per year. Before each Gate, shadows as whatever blocks inspiration is revealed to be transformed. Now is the time to let go bodily tensions that hold outmoded ways of thinking and feeling. Breathe deeply and move freely (dance!) to shed old ways and become present to the power and possibilities of the new time. As the Gate opens, new light pours through with new inspirations and new creative energy.
Balsamic Moon, Sept 4-6 – Make a Wish! - The Balsamic Moon is the Wishing Moon: a time to put wishes on the air. Also called “the witches Moon,” this is a time to bring people to mind for healing. Empathic feeling invokes healing. As we feel, we heal. Needs felt now invoke magic from the new lunar cycle.
Moon at the Equator / Zero Point South, Sept 8 (11:45 am) - Meditate - Lunar 0 Points are cosmic balance times ideal for creative imagination. 0 South is a time to connect with the light and surrender to spirit before entering the inner world in quest for vision. The portal opens for about 2 hours 10:45 am - 12:45 pm.
Dark of the Moon / New Moon, Sept 7-9 – – Time to Go Within - The Dark of the Moon is a 3-day period beginning the day before New Moon and ending at Sunset the day after when the crescent becomes visible. While unfavorable for most outward activities, this time is ideal for inner work and energy clearing for the new cycle. Key to transforming shadow (prima material) is deep breathing with focus on an ideal to be made real. Each New Moon is a cosmic spring that flows freely with blessings as we slow down and go within. Nostradamus calls the New Moon "the day of Diana, a time for silent rest." It’s a time for being quiet to draw from the well within. This Hercules decan Virgo New Moon seeds emergence of new leaders, new heroes and spiritual warriors.
Crescent New Moon, Sept 9-14 - Time to Sow - This is the time to bring forward what we wish to be realized. Farmers plant seeds when the crescent appears, seeds are fertile on every level. This time favors all new beginnings, anything is possible. Moon magic is strongest Sunset to Moonset when the Moon is in the 7th House. Mercury with the Crescent favors communication, Saturn cuts away what we need to let go, Venus brings new love and new creation.
1st Quarter Moon, Sept 15 (1:50 am) – Let Go the Old, Power On the New - The First Quarter Moon is like a scythe cutting across the sky. This is a time for decision, a time to cut free of the past and affirm our true core purpose. Choices made now are likely to be the right ones. Breathe deeply and focus on the light above to make your ideal real, and move freely (dance!) to shed old ways and be present to the power and possibilities of the time.
Moon Out of Bounds South, Sept 13-16 (10:56 am 9/13 - 5:59 am 9/16) - As the Moon travels below the zodiac our inner world is illuminated. Old belief patterns and emotional blocks are revealed and can more easily be reformed. We experience challenges where we’re blocked or hiding from ourselves. This is a time to go beneath the surface, do research, change habits and renovate our inner world.
Mercury Prometheus! Sept 16-26 – New Fire - Mercury emerges from behind the Sun as bringing new fire to mortals. We can expect many good developments in global communication and new inventions that will reshape the world.
Autumn Equinox - Balance Within, Sept 22 (5:19 pm edt, 1:19 pm gmt) - Maat, the Egyptian Goddess of Justice, stands on the western horizon holding a scale with a human heart on one side and a feather on the other. At the Equinox (Sept 22-29) we are given opportunities to let go whatever makes our heart heavy so that it becomes as light as the feather of Maat. Of course what’s heavy (personal and world) comes up now to be released. How to let it go? Breathe and release, breathe and release… Maat is Libra, Libra is air. Emotions convert from one form to another through the action of the breath - especially at Autumn Equinox and in the Sunset hour.
The Moon Hare Full Moon, Sept 22-23 (exact 5:17 am) – Illumination! - Each Full Moon brings revelation and opportunities for healing body, mind and soul. Meditation, deep breathing, music and dancing open us to receive blessings. This is the Harvest Moon, a time for separating wheat from chaff. Now the Moon Hare is seen pounding the “Elixir of Immortality.” The Moon Hare pounds herbs extracting their essence as our psyches pound out what is worthwhile from the year. Gathering the Elixir at this Full Moon is a key to psychic alchemy. The Full Moon is like a pitcher that pours out the elixir, we just raise our cups to receive. Cosmic Energy flows for 3 days following the Full Moon. Revelations come in dreams, chance encounters, and flashes of inspiration. It’s magic time!
Moon Out of Bounds North, Sept 28-30 (6:20 am 9/28 – 8:12 pm 9/30) - We are more open-minded and ready for change when the Moon travels the higher world. We have more freedom and imagination so new ideas are more easily and successfully shared. This time is ideal for new business ventures or special social gatherings. It’s time to share new opportunities, make announcements and perhaps bring a new discovery to light. Late evening Sept 29 is most magical when the Moon sails high over Orion.
Michaelmas Sept 29-30 Time to Celebrate! - Michaelmas is a harvest festival and an arts festival when people come together to share their creative fruits. Work is done, now it’s time to play.
